ART theories and concepts:

The three important pillars of art in my eyes are knowing your medium (digital or traditional), knowing art theories, (concepts, techniques, style, art, science) and practicing.

As a golden saying goes “Practice makes perfect”, so review tutorials and practice as much as possible to develop your own style. I will be adding more video tutorials over time (the ones I have watched and others were kind enough to share). The books section (see below or click here) may also help you with learning more about art theories and painting (traditional or digital).

You can see some of my digital paintings in the gallery above, as well as in the main galleries.

Visit my online shop to purchase calendars, wall art and more if you like. I will release more items this year. There is NO profit margin on any of the items. I am trying a honor system and asking people to donate to charity instead of paying a profit margin.

Welcome to my ART section

I believe there are four pillars to the world of art:

1.   Knowledge of Art theory and concepts

2.   Tools (Digital or Traditional)

3.   Practice

4.   Talent

The first three can be influenced by yourself, while talent is a natural gift that helps excel just a little bit further.

I have compiled a list of books and videos that I have learnt from, and that will hopefully also help you learn more about the art and science of painting. The tools you use may vary (e.g. type of software you use, or type of hardware you use), but the art theories and concepts will still apply, even to digital medium.

KNOW YOUR ART: Books on Theories & Concepts

Harmonious Color Schemes, by Elaine Barrette Farmer

Book:  Harmonious Color Schemes (Elaine Barrette Farmer)

I found this to be a great book on color theory and color harmonies. It is based on traditional art and traditional medium, but all the concepts still apply to digital medium and photography.

The author first provides a background and history to the so color wheel and then provides plenty examples of color schemes, color mixing and example paintings showcasing the color themes. Even if you use digital art and medium, the classic theories and art of mixing and combining colors still applies.

For photographers this could also provide learning and examples for selecting appropriate backgrounds colors to provide harmony with the main subject.
